About LEAH

For over 40 years, Learn English at Home (LEAH) has supported people whose first language is not English to thrive in health, education and the workplace. Our vision is Inclusion through language.

We provide free English lessons starting at the lowest levels, working across four London boroughs. Our blend of one‑to‑one and class teaching, delivered both in person and online, ensures that students who cannot access conventional college courses still receive high‑quality support.

We specialise in supporting students with little or no English. Lessons are delivered by trained volunteers and ESOL teachers, tailored to each student’s needs. Teaching focuses on practical life skills such as making GP appointments, using local libraries, navigating public transport and communicating confidently in everyday situations.

A key part of our offer is a programme of trips and social activities. These help students understand their local community, practise English in real‑life settings, overcome isolation and build confidence.

LEAH breaks down language barriers and connects people to vital services. We offer:

  • 1:1 in‑person lessons – at the student’s home or a local shared space such as a library.
  • 1:1 online lessons via Zoom – ideal for students with caring responsibilities or health issues.
  • Online classes – students receive one year of 1:1 support followed by one year in a class.
  • In‑person classes – delivered in a range of venues, including local schools.
  • Social activities and local trips – supporting integration, confidence and wellbeing.

Delivered primarily by trained volunteer tutors, LEAH helps people build confidence, improve their English and participate actively in their communities.

Role Responsibilities

This role focuses on meeting funder expectations and strengthening student progression outcomes. The main responsibilities are to:

  • Act as the key liaison between funder requirements and internal team priorities, maintaining the KPI and Funder Tracker.
  • Lead and streamline internal systems so they are easy to use and effectively capture student progression and outcomes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners to strengthen our shared focus on outcomes and student progression.
  • Support delivery of the strategic plan, translating priorities into practical implementation.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, including:
    • Ensuring colleagues share a clear and consistent understanding of priorities and requirements.
    • Writing succinctly and clearly to meet internal and external communication needs.

Person Specification

This role will suit someone passionate about supporting refugees and asylum seekers, with experience in the charitable sector. The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong process and system skills. Experience with Lamplight or similar database systems is desirable. You must be able to translate operational needs into practical system requirements. Confident use of data management tools to monitor, analyse and report information is important.
  • Demonstrable project management skills. Ability to identify key priorities, maintain focus, meet deadlines and “see the wood for the trees.”
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.  Our six‑person staff team operates within a flat structure, so clear and succinct communication is essential.
  • Experience in the charitable sector. Experience in the education sector is desirable.
  • Knowledge of local partners and services across the boroughs in which LEAH operates is highly desirable.
  • Flexibility in working arrangements. Some tasks can be completed remotely, but regular time in the office will be highly beneficial for collaboration and communication.

We warmly encourage applications from people with lived experience of migration or asylum seeking.
