LEAH Finance Manager
Accountable to: Head of Charity
Based at: Siddeley House, 50 Canbury Park Road, Kingston, KT2 6LX and/or remote working
Hours: A part-time role of 1 day (or two half days), 7 hours per week
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum for full time role (35 hours per week) – depending on experience
About LEAH
LEAH has been working for over 40 years with ethnically and culturally diverse adults, including refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants, to support them to learn English. Based in Kingston-upon-Thames, we work primarily across Southwest London and provide a stepping stone to employment, volunteering, other educational opportunities, and other forms of community involvement.
We provide the following services to adults at no cost to the client:
- One to one English tuition in the client’s home or remotely
- A range of small-group classes in community settings and remotely
- In Work ESOL programme for migrant workers with limited English
- Trips and social activities in the surrounding areas
- Information and support to access local statutory and voluntary services.
Our requirement
We are a small charity and have limited resources. We are in need of someone to provide a stable and flexible finance function. Our requirements may vary from week to week and depending on the time of year; and so it is vital to have someone to join our team who can be responsive to this.
You will be working closely with the Office Manager, Fundraising Manager, the Head of Charity and the Finance Committee Chair and be part of a small team who are passionate about sustaining and expanding the charity’s work. You will play a key role in managing and analysing the annual budget, providing monthly, quarterly, and yearly management accounts, and supporting fundraising applications and funding reports.
You must possess a wide range of accounting skills, enjoy being hands on, and be comfortable carrying out a wide range of accounting and finance tasks, preferably with experience in the charity sector.
Key responsibilities
- Own and manage LEAH’s financial processes, ensuring that all systems and controls are fit for purpose.
- Overall responsibility for the management accounts, including coding and posting transactions, income and expenditure schedules, cash flow forecasts and balance sheets.
- Preparation of annual report and accounts in collaboration with the Finance Committee Chair.
- Liaison with Auditors and production of audit schedules and back up as required for them.
- Liaison with external payroll managers and management of the monthly process.
- Preparation of reports for the board of trustees and finance committee as required and attendance at Finance Committee.
- Assistance to the Fundraising function, largely preparation of funding application budgets and providing spend reports for funders.
- Management of banking processes and signatories alongside the Office Manager.
- Management and administration of the Xero finance system.
- Liaison with other external bodies as required in collaboration with the Office Manager.
- Other tasks related to the Finance Function which may be requested by the Finance Committee Chair or Head of Charity.
Key requirements
- Qualified – ACA, ACCA, CIMA. QBE will also be fine dependent on experience.
- Ability to work as part of a small team, manage own workload and prioritise deadlines.
- Able to maintain strong and effective financial controls and governance.
- Experience of small company or charity accounting from transactions to reports.
- Demonstrate a collaborative and flexible approach.
