Patricia is a 26-year-old female who arrived from Cameroon three years ago.
In her home country she was studying a human resources course at university. Moving to the UK she realised she needed to improve her English but wasn’t sure where to go and found out about the class that LEAH ran from her local library. She enrolled in a class with LEAH at the start of 2025.
She said
“The classes with LEAH have been amazing. LEAH are wonderful, and the class is more sociable. Savannah wants to know more about me. The teacher gives time and really helps me.”
Through the GLA project, LEAH introduced the learning offer from Hounslow Adult Community and Education (HACE). Following discussions between LEAH and HACE they ran a cooking course to introduce learners to their offer. The course proved popular as many of LEAH’s learners were in Home Office accommodation and didn’t have access to cooking facilities. HACE were also able to offer travel bursaries due to additional funding for Multiply.
“In the course I learnt how to measure, fractions and learnt new [maths] words. I have enjoyed making all the different foods and learnt how to bake cakes.”
Since doing the course Patrica has taken the opportunity to sign up for the HACE Entry Level 3 course at Kingsley Academy. She has been going every Monday since the end of February. As she looks forward, she is interested in volunteering to expand her skills and make her job ready in the future.
